Bulgarian monasteries

Bulgarian monasteries are closely connected to the Bulgarian history. From the very start, monasteries have gained great importance as centres of the Bulgarian literature and culture and have preserved the nation's are still-functioning and keep their original architecture and interior of the buildings. The Rila monastery lies in the very Rila mountain, at 1,147 meters above sea level. It is situated near the city of Sofia and is maybe most polpular Bulgarian monastery. Rila monastery impress visitors with to its size, natural surroundings, architecture, wall paintings and ancient history. The monastery is flanked by the small mountain rivers of Rilska and Drushlyavitsa and is only 4 hours walking distance from the Malyovitsa peak, rising at 2,729 meters above sea level. Musala , the highest peak of the Rila mountain,(2925 meters), which is the Balkan peninsula’s highest point, is further away at about 8 hours’ walk.

he stauropegial Troyan monastery, “Assumption of Virgin Mary”, lies 10 km to the southeast of the old Balkan town of Troyan, near the village of Oreshak in the skirts of the Balkan mountain range. It is the biggest monastery in the Balkan mountains and is surrounded by beautiful forests and the Cherni Osam river, which gives a particular charm to the place. Every year at 15 of august here take place worshiping of Holy Mater and a lot of people come to pray for heаlth and happiness.
